PETER!

On March 30th, 2010, at 4:51pm South Africa time, Peter Kweli was born.

His weight and height were 3.58kg and 53cm respectively, or for those of you more used to the American system (like us) he weighed in at 7lb 14oz and 20.8in. He has been happy and healthy (w

ith an excellent APGAR of 9 at birth and 10 at 5 minutes old).

Labor was not quite how we had hoped it would go. Concerns for Peter ultimately led to a C-section, but everything turned out okay. Megan and Peter are both healthy and recovering well. They both came home from the hospital today. Tom is happy not to have to taxi back and forth from the hospital to the guesthouse (which ended up over an hour when traffic was bad). Grace was very excited to meet her little brother. She likes to point out that he has eyes and a nose and wants to be able to see all that is going on with him. “I ‘anna see!” She keeps saying.

Many people are asking about his middle name “Kweli” (pronounced “kw-AY-lee”) already. It means “truth” in the island language (as well as in other Bantu languages). We pray that he will grow to be a man that seeks after truth.

Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement. We are excited to move into this new stage of life as parents of two. Although Islanders usually use the oldest child’s name for parents (remember, we are Mama and Papa Grace on the island), it is not uncommon to sometimes use one of the other children’s names.

PRAYERS ANSWERED

We are extremely thankful that Peter was born and that he and Megan are doing well. We are also thankful that Megan’s mom has been here to help with looking after Grace and all the little details that are hard to take care of when you’re in the hospital. We are thankful that recovery is going well and that Grace has been very positive about having a little brother.

PRAYERS REQUESTED

Pray for Megan as she recovers from surgery. Pray for our family as we adjust to being a family of four. Pray for a restful and relaxing adjustment. Pray for the paper work that needs to be done so that we can get Peter a passport before we return to the island. Pray that our friends, our teammates, many others, and we too would be able to hear the story of Easter in a fresh way that would open our hearts, minds, and souls to truth.
