Another adventure is beginning. For the past couple weeks we have been a family of four, but today (Friday) we are on our way back to the islands.
We leave behind the cool weather, supermarkets, hot running water, washing machines, fast internet and chain restaurants of South Africa, but are going home to our friends and the beauty of the islands.
The first adventure will be traveling. We have a red-eye flight to Kenya before heading to the islands tomorrow. We have two children under 2 years and too much luggage.
The second adventure will be unpacking and settling back into our house and neighborhood. Friends and neighbors will be eager to see us and meet Peter, so the first hours back home will be full of smiles, greetings and conversation.
And finally the third adventure will be settling back into our island life with the new routines and challenges of a larger family. It will be back to cloth diapers, hand-washing and regular walks to the market for food. Megan will be learning the balance of being alone with a newborn and a toddler, as Tom will be quickly inundated with outside responsibilities. Then Grace will be getting used to being a big sister as she transitions back to the island culture and climate.
Most adventures are clothed in the unknown. We’re not sure exactly what our daily life will look like in a few months, but we are confident that the unknown does not need to be feared and we have a God that looks after and cares for us- through all our transitions.
PRAYERS ANSWERED
Peter’s passport arrived in record time so that we didn’t have to change our plane tickets. This was a huge answer to prayer. We were able to get all the things on our to-do list done. Tom was able to get the website to a place where he was happy with it. Gram and Grandad (Megan’s parents) made it safely to Togo.
PRAYERS REQUESTED
Pray for all the final details of paying our medical bills- dealing with international medical insurance and different currencies can be frustrating. Pray for our transition. Pray that we would be able to slip back into the local language easily and have good vocabulary recall and good conversations with neighbors as they welcome us back. Pray for Grace, the past few days have been rough with all the running around and packing up. Pray for our health as we travel and settle into the island.
