Generations- From the Road (Missouri)

We left Dallas over the weekend and made our way up to Missouri. On the way we had a chance to meet some more of the people we will be working with on the island. Chris and Beka are the veterans of the team having lived on the islands for over six years. We also got to meet their four boys. It was an encouragement to meet all of them and only increased our excitement about the days ahead.

We spent most of this week in Missouri with Grace’s great-grandparents. Nowadays we miss the blessing of having multiple generations under one roof. What a blessing it was to see Grace held by her great-grandparents and to think about the ways God has watched over a family for generations. Holding Grace brought to mind stories of holding their own children, and their grandchildren, and of being children themselves. We talked and heard the stories of Megan’s family’s larger story— woven with good times, bad times, and God’s marvelous provision throughout.

As he held his great-granddaughter, Lloyd said in his thoughtful manner, “The older I get the faster time seems to move.” And as this eighty-six year old man held his three month old great-granddaughter, we reflected for a moment on just how small a fraction of time three months is for someone who has seen more than eight decades, and then we considered the largeness of a day for someone who has only experienced three-months. Time is such a constant in the world and yet such a variable mystery. No wonder our minds boggle with the thought of eternity.

PRAYERS ANSWERED
We continue to have good visits. The car is still running well and Grace continues to do well. She had a little bit of a cold this week, but was a trooper and is already much better. She is also very close to rolling over. (Actually she just rolled over for the first time as I was typing!)

PRAYERS REQUESTED
We have made the arrangements to return to Chad for a visit in September—pray that we prepare for this time well as there is much we need to do while we are there (move out of our house, figure out what to do with all our possessions, say goodbye to everyone, introduce everyone to Grace). A week and a half on the road- we look forward to staying in one place for awhile.
