Since the summer of 2000 Camp Cedarbrook
(formerly Camp Cherith) has held a special place in our hearts. That summer Megan, who had just finished her freshman year of college, was hired as a camp counselor. God used the encouragement, challenges, and teaching she received and gave that summer to change her life. She went back every summer after that to grow and help others grow in their walk with the Lord. Then in the summer of 2006, she brought Tom along and together we served at camp and participated firsthand in the compelling ministry that takes place there.
Camp is in Maine--and it’s beautiful! Camp Cedarbrook is a girl’s camp and has been helping girls grow in their faith since 1945. Every week of the summer they have different themes--a fun theme and a spiritual theme. Then in the midst of fun and faith, girls get to do all sorts of camp things: singing, hiking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, swimming, archery, riflery, crafts and more. But they have added one new thing in recent years - family camp! So on Monday we drove up with our kids and introduced them to camp!
Family Camp was great. We got to know some great families and reconnected with many old friends (most of whom now have kids of their own). We were challenged to live out our faith in our family, and we got to relax on the waterfront, kayak around the lake, cook s’mores, and watch our daughter and son experience new things like finding pine cones and acorns, jumping into the water, and picking wild blueberries.
It has been a blessing to be reintroduced to a ministry that blessed us in the past and to be blessed again. Places, peoples and ministries grow and change but He continues to be faithful.
PRAYERS ANSWERED
We’ve had a good time of reconnecting with people here. This past Sunday we got a chance to share at one of our churches. We got to talk to lots of people and felt very welcomed. We are looking forward to spending more time with them for the next couple of Sundays. We had a great time in Maine and were thankful for good weather and safe travels to and from camp.
PRAYERS REQUESTED
Our old teammate Kathryn is getting married TODAY! Many of our old teammates are going to attend the wedding. Pray for a blessed day for all of them. On the heels of the wedding, many of our teammates will travel on to the islands. Pray for them as they get ready to transition back to island life. Please remember our friends on the islands--especially the brothers. The month of fasting continues for another 2 weeks. Pray that they would remain strong.
