our friend from ME)If you were stranded on a tropical island and could only have 66 lbs of stuff, what would you take? I know it isn’t the traditional question. Usually the question gives you 5 items rather than a weight. Most people don’t know how much their stuff weighs. With sixty-six pounds you can go beyond a few keepsakes and really think about what would be good or useful. It is a hard question to answer quickly, you’d need to research and really think about it.
So it may not be a good icebreaker question, but it is one that is pressing on our minds. The day approaches quickly. We leave in just under two weeks (Feb 13) and we are only taking what the airlines allow us to take. So while we can bring a little more on our way to Kenya, on the trip to the island the little plane will only allow each adult 30kg or 66 lbs.
So what is important? We’re not ready to make the hard decisions yet. We have piles of things we might want or need, but we have only begun to sort through them. Soon however, we will be arranging them into bags and then the fateful moment will arrive. We’ll put the bags on the scale and see…did we sift down our piles enough? Do we have extra room or already too much weight?
Either way, we’ll be forced to answer questions like: What will be more valuable to us over the next couple years, another toy for Grace or a container of American peanut butter, a favorite book or a nice outfit?
We’re hoping that we will be pleasantly surprised by how far 66 lbs will take us.

We are certified to teach English! We both received our certificates saying that we have successfully completed our course. We have had good visits from family and friends from far off places like DC, NJ and ME. It seems that the banking difficulties are sorted out now. Grace has started to babble more, including things like “wow”, “mama” and “dada”. We survived another New England storm of snow and ice (our last??).

All three of us are coughing now. Pray that we recover quickly. Grace has her 9 month doctor’s appointment this week. The time is going to go by quickly, pray that we have the time to spend will all those we want to see as well as getting tasks completed
