We had a partial disaster this past week. Our hard drive crashed and we lost everything. The good news was that we had backed up our hard drive in July, but there was a moment when we thought we wouldn’t even be able to access the back-up. It was a depressing moment.
It reminded me of being evacuated from Chad—We only made it out with a small bag, but we had our computer and passports. What else did we need? At first I thought it was a little sad that we had so much at stake in this bundle of electronics. But it isn’t just that the computer is expensive and hard to replace, it is the store place for our memories. Our writing and our photos from the past five plus years fill these megabytes.
We try not to get too sentimental about things. Our lives require us not to have tons of stuff to weigh us down. That is what is so hard about the computer—it acts as our notebook, stereo, DVD player/TV, photo album. It allows us to be more minimalistic while still being able to flip through hundreds of family pictures when we are homesick.
So maybe it isn’t so bad to be
attached to our computer, as long as we realize and are okay with the fact that, like all things, it can fail us and can be taken away.PRAYERS ANSWERED
Megan’s grandmother is out of the hospital. We made it back safely from Vermont and then safely to Maine (where we are currently). We are enjoying a good time with Megan’s mom, brother and sister, who are visiting from three different parts of the U.S.

Pray that we can get back on track with French studies and our TESOL class after this computer mishap. Pray for our travels back to Massachusetts and our return to more of a schedule.
